For børn i Vesthimmerland

Wauh - it's for children

Vesthimmerland has a cornucopia of activities for children of all ages, and anyone who likes fun and games.

People can’t walk on water

– but almost. The blue flag (indicating a clean beach) flaps over the bathing beaches all along the coast. The kids can spend many hours collecting shells, building sand castles and splashing in the shallow water.
Krabbefiskeri ved LimfjordenCatching crabs while lying on your stomach on the bathing jetty is also popular. You just use a stick with a peg on it. Put a piece of sausage or a mussel on it as bait, and the bucket quickly fills up with lively crabs.

Try for yourself

Seal safari with ChimeraA seal safari, sunset trip, or, if you’re brave, a pirate trip on an old sailing boat. Various trips are organised throughout the summer – just ask the tourist information offices, they can always help. If you prefer to try your own skills on Limfjorden’s blue water, you can rent canoes, windsurfing equipment and kayaks.

Museums
– who says they’re boring?

It’s all for kids – enthusiastic storytellers can find good, distinctive stories and tell them in a lively and fascinating way.

Herregåreden HesselHow many people know that the Agricultural Museum (Landbrugsmuseet) Herregården Hessel used timber from Viking ships to build the barn’s roof? The seven-year-old shepherd boy was in charge of the geese and slept out in the barn, in the feed trough.  Museums in Vesthimmerland.

Try counting how many times the colourful sails and kites of the windsurfers and kite-surfers fall in the water.

Follow the activity calendar, which will be updated with activities and events for adults and children on an ongoing basis.

The Danish Present-Day Museum  in Aars

(Nutidsmuseet)
Displays more modern everyday objects. The big red fire truck from 1954 is among the collection’s pearls. And a ‘new’ computer from the 1970s always amazes visitors.

Vesthimmerlands Museum

tells you about life in Vesthimmerland throughout 10.000 years. Borrow a MP3-player from the Museum and listen to an exciting drama story about the warriors in the bog.

Ertebølle Stone Age Centre (Stenaldercenter).

The roofs of this Stone Age village are made of seaweed, and the garbage is piled up right outside the doors – what a stink on a warm summer’s day! Take a trip in the tree-trunk boats, see the flint axes, and try out the bows and arrows.

There have always been sailing boats on Limfjorden.

The Limfjord MuseumThe Limfjord Museum by Frederik IX’s canal shows how they built these amazing old ships without engines.

The Bicycle Museum (Cykelmuseet) in Ålestrup

The Bicycle Museum displays bicycles without pedals, cycles you ride with your arms, and penny-farthings. Widow Møghe from the famous Danish TV series Matador has also deposited her old wheelchair here.

Mostly for girls

DukkemuseetDolls, elves and trolls are on show in their finest clothes at the Doll Museum (Dukkemuseet) in Rønbjerg. In a little corner there are lots of different marionettes that want to take part in plays and fairy tales.

Events all summer

 - throughout Vesthimmerland.
You can go to one of the town festivals or the harbour festival with its amusement fair. Take part in a guided tour by bus, or on horseback, bicycle or foot. The many fun activities will include bouncy castles, 'riding at the ring' on bicycles, gokarting and dancing.
